April 18, 2002
(OTTAWA) - The NHL Fans' Association (NHLFA) has retained hockey trivia expert Liam Maguire to represent the Association as its spokesman. The NHLFA is a web-based, non-profit advocacy organization with more than 18,000 hockey fans on its rolls.
"Liam brings a tremendous passion for the game to the NHLFA," says Jim Boone, co-founder of the NHLFA. "His knowledge of NHL hockey is unmatched."
Liam Maguire is also a published author having released "Liam Maguire's Hockey Trivia Book 1" in 1994 and "What's the Score" in 2001. He has worked extensively in radio and television since 1981 and has made more than 1,800 appearances as a keynote speaker and entertainer, confounding audiences with his encyclopaedic knowledge of the game.
Liam's passion for hockey extends to his family; Liam actually proposed to his future wife Liz at centre ice at the Montreal Forum, Sept. 10, 1993. The couple married the following year on the same day. Liam and Liz are the only people to ever become engaged on Forum ice in the 71- year existence of the building.
"The NHLFA is still in its infancy and Liam certainly recognizes that fact," said Jim Spendlove, co-founder of the Association. "With that in mind, we are searching for corporate sponsors who can see the great potential of the organization and we feel confident that Liam's talents will only serve to help us in that search."
